Hello, greetings friends! Today we are here to answer another of your questions. Today, we will discuss the correct time and date to celebrate the grand festival of Diwali in 2024. But what is the correct day? When should Diwali be celebrated? When is the auspicious muhurat for Diwali in 2024?

Before knowing that, we need to understand why and when Diwali is celebrated. The answer is that this five-day festival starts with Dhanteras and ends with Bhai Dooj. It includes rituals such as lighting lamps, cleaning homes, and worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. On this auspicious occasion, people worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha to bring wealth and prosperity. The festival of Diwali celebrates the return of Lord Ram, Mata Sita, and Lord Laxman to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. It is observed on the Amavasya of the month of Kartika and is one of the largest and most important festivals in India. Spiritually, it signifies the victory of light over darkness.

Diwali, also known as Lakshmi Puja, is a night-time ritual and is considered proper to observe only during the night.

When is Diwali

On the evening of October 31, 2024, at 3:50 PM, the Amavasya will begin and will continue until November 1, 2024. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to celebrate this grand festival on October 31 rather than on November 1. However, there are differing opinions among scholars on this matter. According to the scriptures, festivals that require observances during the day should be calculated from the day of sunrise, whereas those that involve rituals during the night should be calculated from the night itself.
